Paul Martin

Connections Minister

paul@cccfortscott.com

Paul grew up in Frontenac, Kansas, and graduated from St. Mary’s Colgan High School. In 1993, he began attending Ozark Christian College, where he would eventually earn his Bachelor’s in Biblical Literature—and, just as importantly, meet his future wife, Kara.

The two were part of the same friend group throughout their freshman year, but it wasn’t until the last day on campus that Paul, in his words, “came to his senses and asked her out.” That summer brought lots of letters, a few long-distance visits, and a proposal before their sophomore year. Not long after accepting a part-time role at Community as a Children’s Ministry intern, Paul and Kara were married in Joplin.

Paul graduated from OCC in 1998 and soon became Community’s first full-time Children’s Minister—a role he held for 20 years. In 2018, he transitioned to Family Minister, and in 2024, stepped into his current role as Connections Minister, where he helps people find their place and purpose in the life of the church.

Paul and Kara are the proud parents of five children: Drew, Luke, Noah, Maia, and Emma (yes, there’s a four-letter name theme!). They also gained two amazing daughters-in-law, Maddie (married to Drew) and Gabri (married to Luke), who unfortunately broke the four-letter streak—but the family forgives them.

Books, Movies, or Podcasts:
Paul is a movie guy through and through. Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings are long-time favorites, but The Princess Bride reigns supreme.

Favorite Ministry Memory:
“I’ve been here for over 29 years. There are so many memories—and probably just as many I’ve forgotten—that it’s hard to pick one favorite. But the years at Camp Cyokamo and SuperStart, seasons of Upward Sports, and countless Vacation Bible Schools all stand out. Those moments, and the baptisms that followed, have left a permanent mark on my heart.”
